Concrete and floor joints

Concrete and floor joint sealing

Joints in concrete floors and external slabs control cracking and allow movement. Left empty or badly filled they collect dirt, break down at the edges and jolt forklifts and vehicles. Post the job with metres of joint and how the area is used.

Floors, decks and yards

Internal warehouse and factory floors with hard-wheeled forklift traffic usually need a semi-rigid filler, often epoxy or polyurea, that supports the joint edges. Joints that move more, car park decks and external slabs need a flexible sealant such as polyurethane, and forecourts and bunds may need a fuel or chemical resistant product.

Joint edges that have already broken up (arris damage) are normally cut back and rebuilt with a repair mortar or resin before the joint is refilled.

Planning floor joint work

Floor joint work usually has to fit round a working site: nights, weekends or a bay at a time. Say how many metres of joint there are, roughly how wide, what traffic uses the floor and when areas can be closed. Photos of the worst joints and of the general floor help applicators judge repairs.

  • Metres of joint and typical width
  • Floor use: forklifts, pallet trucks, cars or pedestrians
  • When areas can be closed and for how long
  • Any specified product or floor designer guidance

Floor joint jobs for applicators

Floor joint work comes from warehouse and logistics operators, facilities managers, car park owners and contractors handing over new slabs. On this site they post quantities, use and access windows up front, so you can price and plan shifts before you visit.

Joining is free. Choose the sealant work you do, your base postcode and radius, and the postcode areas you cover. See sealant jobs for applicators.

Frequently asked questions

When should new slab joints be filled?

Semi-rigid fillers are normally installed once the slab has done most of its early shrinkage. Follow the floor designer's or manufacturer's guidance.

Can joints be done while the warehouse is working?

Often, in sections or out of hours. Say what is possible when you post.

Is floor joint work priced per metre?

Usually, with extra for arris repairs and for working out of hours. See the price guide for general ranges.

Will a floor joint contractor respond to my job?

You can post a job anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland, and applicators who cover your area can claim it. Applicator numbers vary by area, so we cannot promise a response to every job. If nobody claims your job you can cancel it.

How are applicators on Mastic Man checked?

Applicators must confirm their email address before they can see jobs, and we suspend accounts reported for misuse. We do not check companies or identity, so ask for references and photos of previous work. Applicators can add CSCS, IPAF or PASMA cards. We are an introduction service and do not promise any outcome, so ask for photos of previous work and agree the price and scope in writing.
